Here at Age Graceful, we believe education is essential to make an informed decision. You should be well-informed and soundly educated on what options are available to you along with all benefits, risks, durations, and home support you should consider. Here are general guidelines associated with different treatments you may encounter on your skin wellness and aesthetic journey. To achieve the best results, compliance with recommended aftercare instructions is crucial for healing, prevention of scarring, and the shortest, most comfortable healing period. Please read through the aftercare instructions for each specific procedure, these are general guidelines and specific instructions will be given to you from your provider directly.
Wait at least 12 hours (the next morning) to wash your face. Cleanse your face with the cleanser provided by your skin Specialist or use a mild cleanser such as Hale and Hush Quiet Wash. Use the cleanser for the duration of the healing process. DO NOT use any scrubs or any irritants such as Retin-A, Benzoyl Peroxide, or any such astringents for 2 weeks. Skin always should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.
Use sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every day and reapply throughout the day. We recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen covering both UVA & UVB rays.
Shower with lukewarm water after treatments. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. The skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.
It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for several hours, use a clean cold compress as needed. You could also expect to experience redness and/or purpura (epidermal bleeding) from 2 to 7 days in the treated area.
Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1 to 2 months post-treatment to reduce the chance of dark or light spots. If you have a history of PIH we often recommend a sensitive protocol.
Makeup is not recommended for at least 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. We recommend you clean your makeup brushes at least once every 2 to3 months.
Avoid submersing the treated area in any hot water for 48 hours or while the treatment area is still red.
When bathing, avoid very hot water on the treatment site. Avoid strenuous exercise and massage for 1 to 2 days post skin treatment.
Moisturize your face with the hydrator provided by your skin Specialist, Vital Lipid Lotion, or use the products (lotions, serums, liquid sunscreens, aloe, etc.) that are best for your skin type each day. Using these products will prevent your skin from over or under-compensating and may enhance the full benefits of the skin treatment.
Makeup should not be used for at least 5 days post-treatment. Most makeups are moisturizing, which can sometimes prevent the peeling process. If makeup is needed, we recommend using new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection.
Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1-2 months post-treatment to reduce the chance of dark or light spots. Powered mineral makeup can be worn during the healing process as a sunscreen, but make sure the makeup is new and the brush is clean. Liquid sunscreens are not recommended.
Use sunscreen of SPF 25 or higher after the 5th day of your skin rejuvenation treatment. We recommend powdered sunscreen.
Shower with lukewarm water after treatments. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. The skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.
Avoid submersing the treated area in any hot water for 48 hours or while it is still red.
It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for several hours, use a clean cold compress as needed. You should also expect to experience redness and/or purpura (epidermal bleeding) from five to seven days in the treated area.
Wait at least 12 hours (the next morning) to wash your face. Cleanse your face with the cleanser provided by your Laser Specialist or use a mild cleanser such as Elta Foaming Wash. Use the cleanser for the duration of the healing process. DO NOT use any scrubs or any irritants such as Retin-A, Benzoyl Peroxide, or any such astringents for 2 weeks. Skin always should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.
When bathing, avoid very hot water on the treatment site. Avoid strenuous exercise and massage for 3-5 days post-laser skin treatment.
Apply the 4th day post-treatment a couple of hours before bedtime. Leave on while sleeping and steam in the shower the following morning. With a warm wash cloth use large circular motions to remove Aquaphor. Remember – DO NOT SCRUB. This procedure can be repeated the next evening if all the dots don’t come off.
Avoid use of any moisturizing products (lotions, serums, liquid sunscreens, aloe, etc.) for at least 5 days. Using these products will prevent your skin from peeling and may hinder the full benefits of the laser skin rejuvenation procedure.
Makeup may be used after the treatment unless there is epidermal blistering. It is recommended to use new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection. Be sure to wear moisturizer under your makeup. Moisturizer will help exfoliate the dead hair from the follicle, so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area. Any moisturizer without alpha-hydroxy acids is recommended.
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanning lotions for 30 days to reduce the chance of dark or light spots in the treatment area. Use sunscreen SPF25 or higher at all times throughout the treatment and for the following 3 weeks.
Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin as this may cause scarring. DO NOT USE any other hair removal methods or products on the treated area during your laser hair removal treatments, as it will prevent you from achieving your best results.
Shower with lukewarm water after treatments. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. The skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed. You may apply deodorant after 24 hours.
Avoid hot tubs or saunas while skin is red (1-2 days).
No strenuous exercise for 24 hours after the treatment as this will aggravate the redness and could lead to swelling.
Hair re-growth occurs at different rates in different areas of the body. Please note that stubbles (representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle) will appear within 1-7 days from the treatment date. This is normal and is not new hair growth and it will fall out in due time.
Keep the treated area clean and dry while it is healing. Clean the area with soap and water and then gently pat the area dry. If your clothes rub the treatment area you may apply a thin coat of antibiotic ointment and cover with a sterile dressing while it is healing.
Use a clean cloth soaked in cold water as a compress to cool the area, then pat dry. This will help reduce blistering, discomfort, and inflammation.
Blisters are common after laser tattoo removal. Use a sterile needle and drain the blister each time it fills up, this may have to be done multiple times. Do not cut or tear the blister as this may lead to infection. Do not wrap or cover the blister as this will hold in the heat.
You may take plain Tylenol, but avoid aspirin (it can increase the risk of bruising and/or bleeding).
Do not pick at the scab or allow the skin to become scraped, which may result in infection and scarring. Shaving should be avoided in the treated area until the scab is healed.
Wear a sunblock with an SPF25 or higher over the area for 3 weeks following the treatment.
Do not apply makeup, cream, or lotions on the treated area for 48 hours, unless recommended by our office.
Avoid submersing the treated area in any hot water for 48 hours or while it is still red.
If the area looks infected (honey-colored crusting and oozing or spreading redness) or if you experience unusual discomfort or bleeding, please contact your provider immediately. If any other complications develop, or if you have any questions or concerns, contact your provider to assist you.
In the case of any extreme reaction (such as severe facial swelling, severe rash or difficulty breathing), call 911 and go to an emergency room immediately.
